Textfeld: Statement <Return> The “ECOTOPIA PARK” consists in a garden of tropical flowers in cultivation or exhibition, inside a 75 acres farm of former pastures and leftovers of subtropical humid forest. You will walk through footpaths in a labyrinth shaded by giant trees, heliconias, gingers, anthuriums, orchids and hundreds of exhibited tropical plants, including ornamentals, fruits, timber…, medicinally, etc., accompanied by a pleasant rumor of crystalline water, originating from a spring inside the farm, which runs through small cascades towards basins. There is an important biodiversity of about 400 plant species. Only among heliconias, there is about 30 species or varieties originating from several countries and subcontinents. These flowers are used in floral arrangements for hotels, restaurants, weddings, as gifts or souvenirs for European tourists to take them specially packaged to their countries and for exportation. Our guides will explain you anecdotes on the names of trees (traveler’s palm, balsa and fig tree, etc.) about the uses of the fruits (the breadfruit tree brought from Polynesia as cheap food for African slaves), invasive species originating from other continents and which threaten to displace endemic and native plants (Would you believe, that the coconut palm is an invasive species?) ... we will explain you why only few tropical flowers smell during the daytime and other “curiosities” which will make your visit pleasant and amused. The hurricanes George in 1998 and Jeanne in 2004, destroyed numerous units of magnificos giant trees, among those a centenary kapok or silk cotton tree, you will see how quick the nature regenerates, creating on their rests a fertile and splendid space for other species. Also, you might contemplate the exuberant growth of the trees, which only count with several years, of plants like the bamboo, which you can listen growing, so people say. Big colored butterflies, curious lizards, hummingbirds and others will join you on your visit, which, we azure you to be unforgettable, in a place that transfers you to a “Jurassic Park” because everything is a great thing...
